[GARLIC=RICHAIR] 2019 remake with rhizome.org

GARLIC=RICHAIR (2002-2003) was a field harvesting and free wifi public network project conceived by Shu Lea Cheang with funding provided by the “Challenge to the Field” award from Lyn Blumenthal Memorial Fund for Independent Media. Presented by Creative Time in New York city in 2002 and exhibited at Venice Biennale in 2003, Garlic=Richair projects an "after the crash" scenario in which organic garlic has been ordained as new social currency, serving as "credito" for a global shared network. In 2019, rhizome.org remade the work with an updated mobile garlic truck exhibition at the New Museum in New York. Collected as part of rhizome.org's Net Art Anthology [GARLIC=RICHAIR 2019] staged a garlic trust game for trading garlic at Rockaway Beach in summer 2019. The yearly garlic planting (November) and harvest (July) cycle continues with the Rhizome crew at the cycleX farmland.
